NRatings, what it does, in a nutshell: - Select any series installed in your NR2003 installation - Adjust the car ratings manually - Or, the good part, have the application adjust your car ratings automatically according to real NASCAR stats. Stats are stored in a local database and you can bring them up to date with a simple button click and of course a working Internet connection. - It can also create car lists for ingame usage of selected cars. Please note that from v2.5 onwards, NRatings is now hosted at my webspace, although it will of course remain affiliated with MasGafx ! Find it at http://www.tjeuten.be/software/nratings

What an awesome program. I just have one question. If I am reading correctly, shouldn't this install come with all the data for the 4 series already available? I have installed, and have no data. It will not download new data either. It appears to be going through all the races of previous seasons, but no data is downloaded. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

First of all, thank you for the positive comments (IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) @Mac Machine: For now, no multiyear race selections are possible. Only allowed to select one or more races from the same season. The reason is that in normal circumstances, a car is always bound to be running in a season (ie cars from a 1990 carset are only used in the 1990 season obviously). Therefore, I didn't think it would add much value to allow race selections over multiple seaons. But if demand is high, I could maybe try to allow selections that span multiple seasons. Second question: Yes, the car number is taken into account. For a car to be linked, the carnumber has to match and the first or last name has to match. I did this on purpose as I think ratings are also related to a car a driver drives (some teams are better than others). If you have two carfiles of Almirola (one with the 01 and other with the 80), and you select the races where he drove both cars, they should both map. @OmegaSeven: No worries buddy, take your time, hardware failures are a pain in the *** and I don't want to stress you out. While I'm waiting for the formulas, I'll probably have the time to focus on integrating the ARCA series. @C_Peele: Yes, the install comes with a full database with data updated up until Bristol two weeks ago. First, do not forget to point to your NR2003 folder. Then, when you select a series of your NR2003 installation, the button "Import ratings" on the right should light up. Click on it, and then you can select the real life series and seasons in a drop down. The races should show up in the grid. At the moment, of course, it's normal that no new data is downloaded as the database is up to date. Over the course of the weekend, when Martinsville will be raced, you should be able to update the different series. Hope you get it working. Greetings, Mathieu

QUOTE (Andy @ Mar 28 2008, 03:56 PM) msouphy
I can't download get ratings from real life data the database won't load Mkay, hmm, strange. I installed on several separate machines and did not have a problem. One thing I'm noticing though, by the looks of your GUI, is that you are using Vista. I haven't tested it under Vista (for the simple reason I have no Vista machine at my disposal) but I supsect it might be a permission issue, as I've heard Vista is kinda cruel when it comes to permissions. Can you please try to navigate to the folder where you installed the program (C:\Program Files\NRatings by default) and see if you have read-write permissions on all files and especially the database, which is the racingdata.gdb file. Make sure the database file is NOT read only. Please let me know if that solves it. Maybe I can get hold of my dads Vista laptop this weekend. I'll install the app and see what happens.

WOW! Real nice program Mathieu! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) Knowing that down the road we'll be able to choose from the SnyderArt and OmegaSeven rating systems, would it be possible to incorporate a third rating system option that the user could create? I'm not knocking the fine work that these guys have done with the ratings at all- I've learned alot about how the ratings function in the game from them to create my own spreadsheet. The forumlas I use are different than SnyderArt's top-down approach- without going into alot of detail the individual ratings for each "characteristic" min/max values are tighter (I run the trucks and get my data from truckseries.com- I try to recreate comparable finishing orders in the game as they happened in real liife on a race-by-race basis, so the top-down approach doesn't always get the results I'm looking for). Thanks again for this great contribution to the sim community! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

PbFoot, thank you for your comments.
Actually, Snyderart too has already given me the advise to maybe try to allow users to create their custom formulas.
I might try to implement that in any upcoming versions.
Maybe you could even share your formulas too if you want, so I can include them too. I'm just trying to bundle the hard work from everyone (racing-reference, masgrafx, snyderart, ... anyone with decent ratings knowledge) into a single app, cause I for myself don't know the first thing about ratings formulas. And why re-invent hot water if it has already been done.
So if you want to see your formulas included too, just get in touch and we'll work it out.

I am running the program on Vista. Works beautifully now. Had to run the compatibility wizard, and set it to run @ XPSP2 settings though. Thanks for your great contribution to the community. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) This will probably solve your problem as well Andy. I was getting the same results you are on the importing races screen.

I think I know what's wrong for Vista users. Just for the sake of it, can you please download this file: http://www.beracing.be/simracingtools/NRat..._VistaPatch.rarand put the dll's contained in this archive into your NRatings application folder (c:\program files\nratings by default). Then please try to rerun the application in "normal Vista mode" and tell me if it works (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) thanks

That SnyderArt guy is a pretty sharp cookie, huh? (IMG: style_emoticons/default/icon_mrgreen.gif) I'll work on smoothing out the rough areas on my formulas- I've had to work on re-creating them after one of my two HDDs crashed and I lost my originals. I think OmegaSeven is contagious... (IMG: style_emoticons/default/neener.gif) In the meantime, you might check out an example of the Box Scores in the loop summary data here and see if the data can even be incorporated.
